Meet the Committee 2019

meet

We’re at it again, following democracy and bringing in another new committee. This year it’s….

Allie Mackintosh – President

About You:

Hey friends! I’m Allie and I’m the president of this here “comedy society” which basically means I’m in charge, the big dog, the head honcho, the (wo)man with a plan. If you’ve got any trouble I’m the one to call, in fact if you don’t have any trouble I’m also the one to call. Won’t someone please call me? Anyone?

Why Did You Join:

An intense need for external validation.

Favourite Comedies/Comedians:

I’m surprisingly picky when it comes to comedians, but my favourites are: John Mulaney, Hannah Gadsby, James Acaster (like most of the committee), founder of the Revue Sean Morley, Bo Burnham and if you’re going to the Edinburgh fringe check out Laura Davis, who isn’t very big in the UK but is fantastic!

4th Question: This year’s question is: what’s your favourite abstract concept?

Ennui

Samuel Wicks – Inclusions Officer and Social Secretary

About You:

My name’s Sam, and I’m the man with the plan. I’m also your Inclusions Officer and Social Secretary. Crazy right? Two jobs! I’m just that much of an absolute legend that they had to give me two roles to contain my awesome power: the power of making plans! Now, back to the Sam plan man plan….

Why Did You Join:

These idiots left the door open, like the fools they are, and I crept right on in. Two years later and I’m still here, hanging around like an unwanted house-guest or a small mammal.

Favourite Comedies/Comedians:

Oho. Err…well, Black Adder’s quite good. Maybe Le Corbusier, he’s a comedian. I think.

4th Question: This year’s question is: what’s your favourite abstract concept?

The awesome power of making plans!

Sam Baker – Treasurer

About You:

I’m the occasionally funny and overly loud gremlin of the Revue. I’m going to be embezzling as much money as physically possible, so if I turn up to a workshop with something expensive just pretend you didn’t see it. If you ask me a difficult question I’ll probably just fake a heart attack or cry.

Why Did You Join:

I really wanted to get involved in a society and I’m a big fan of random amateur comedy so thought I’d come along. I also love making people laugh, or just laughing at anything else, so a comedy society was definitely the best place to find that.

Favourite Comedies/Comedians:

Daniel Sloss, James Acaster, John Mulaney, Hannibal Buress, Dave Chappelle, Bo Burnham, Trevor Noah and, above all else, Me.

4th Question: This year’s question is: what’s your favourite abstract concept?

Attention, as long as it’s directed at me.

Mostafa Shagar – Secretary

About You:

I’m Mostafa and I’m your new best friend. I am also your Secretary which means I get the honour of reading your emails for you, isn’t that novel! Part of my duties as well is to secrete comedy for the society but nobody seems to talk about that.

Why Did You Join:

I went to a workshop once to see what it’s like then I kept getting voices in my head telling me to come back.

Favourite Comedies/Comedians:

Rhod Gilbert, Bo Burnham, Greg Davies, James Mulaney, Tina Fey, Noel Fielding, Marvelous Mrs Maisel.

4th Question: This year’s question is: what’s your favourite abstract concept?

Gesamtkunstwerk.

Luke Nolan – Artistic Director

About You:

Hi, I’m Luke and I don’t like writing about myself. As Artistic Director I direct sketch shows and run performance workshops. I also bake.

Why Did You Join:

I like comedy and comedy likes me.

Favourite Comedies/Comedians:

Stewart Lee, James Acaster, Bo Burnham, Tim Minchin, Josie Long, Jessica Fostekew, Fern Brady, Harriet Dyer and Roy Chubby Brown.

4th Question: This year’s question is: what’s your favourite abstract concept?

Roy Chubby Brown

Ethan James Davies – Publicity Officer

About You:

Ethan James Davies. Spy. Sailor. Sandbag on the floor of Destiny. I’m the only member here who knows what a juggler looks like. I’m the Publicity Officer, which means I do all the rubbish on this here website, that there Facebook and thither hither Twitter account. It also means I’m allowed to carry advanced ground to air missiles in order to stop the B.E.P. of the society. If you don’t know what the B.E.P. is, I’ll tell you when you’re old enough.

Why Did You Join:

I came to this university because of its Comedy Society. If I didn’t then join, I’d be a right idiot. Like a virgin or a parent or something whack.
